Description
Hasan Dorr, a political analyst, says Hezbollah has surprised both Israel and Lebanese authorities after 2 March, when many expected it was finished. Instead, he says, the will to fight remains, and Hezbollah still has the manpower and equipment needed to slow Israel’s advance, inflict losses, and prevent it from establishing stability in southern Lebanon.
Dorr says FPV drones have become the surprise of this war, just as Kornet missiles were in 2006. Despite Israel declaring a “yellow line“ or “security belt,“ he argues this does not mean it controls the land or has full freedom of movement.
He says the negotiations around Lebanon are not taking place between opposing sides, because the Lebanese authorities, Israel and the United States share common ground in wanting to disarm Hezbollah, reach a peace agreement, and normalise relations. But he notes that the Lebanese president’s first condition was a comprehensive ceasefire, and several rounds later, there is still no ceasefire.
Dorr says that Israel will always demand more, and that the ceasefire model seen in Gaza was an illusion, allowing Israel to gain during the ceasefire what it could not gain during the war. He says Israel serves as a major American base in the region, and that any major Israeli move affecting regional security is ultimately decided with the United States.
He concludes that once America used force against Iran, Iran was able to endure and exhaust the objectives of both America and Israel, making that resilience a defeat for them both.
