The hole was caused by a hopper mouse. This is NOT the snake's permanent enclosure. Yes, you CAN (and is recommended to) keep baby ball pythons in shoebox-sized (or similar) containers, as it helps them feel secure, but it must be a plastic tub with proper ventilation, a small water dish, appropriate substrate (like coco fiber), and controlled heat/humidity, not a cardboard shoebox which can mold or disintegrate. Many breeders use these small setups to reduce stress and encourage feeding in hatchlings before slowly upgrading them to larger enclosures.  Keeping baby ball pythons in large enclosures can cause stress and have them refuse food. Ball pythons live in tight-narrow underground burrows in the wild, making them feel safe and secure.
