SH2 Waioweka Gorge set to be closed for months

Ongoing wet weather is slowing efforts to reopen State Highway 2 through the Waioweka Gorge, badly damaged by multiple large slips. Assessments show the damage is worse than first thought, with the road now likely to remain closed for months, forcing motorists onto detours of up to five hours via State Highways 35 or 5.
