Labour backbencher INTERRUPTS Parliament ceremony with Andy Burnham jibe

Reference was made to the potential Labour leadership challenger Andy Burnham during the State Opening of Parliament procession when Black Rod knocked on the door to the House of Commons. Per tradition, the door to the chamber was slammed in Black Rod’s face, who must bang the door three times before being given permission to enter. As he banged on the door, a backbench MP shouted: “Not now Andy.” Three backbench MPs have told the Press Association that the heckle was made by Torcuil Crichton, Labour MP for Na h-Eileanan an Iar. Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle led the procession of MPs and was followed by Sir Keir Starmer and Tory leader Kemi Badenoch, who was seen chatting to the Prime Minister.
