Description
Welcome back to another episode of Let’s Get Nosy! 🕵️♂️ Today, we are taking a deep dive into the heart of the Joyce-Collingwood neighborhood for a flavor-packed journey you won't want to miss. Vancouver is home to some incredible culinary treasures, and today I’m uncovering the absolute best street eats tucked away on Vanness Ave. If you’ve been searching for that authentic, bold Mexican soul in the city, this is the stream for you! 🌮✨
Our primary destination today is the La Callejera Food Truck, and let me tell you, it is a game-changer. I ordered their signature Pork Torta, and it was a masterclass in texture and seasoning. We’re talking about perfectly toasted, crusty bread housing succulent, slow-cooked pork that’s been marinated to perfection. It’s the kind of meal that feels like a true local secret—messy, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. To round out the savory experience, I swung by the Antojeria Food Truck for a classic: Fresh Churros. These were exactly what you want from a street treat—golden and crispy on the outside, light and airy on the inside, and finished with a generous dusting of cinnamon sugar that just melts in your mouth. 🥨🔥
One of the best parts of this adventure was finding the new picnic tables right outside the Collingwood Neighbourhood House. It’s such a fantastic community addition, providing the perfect urban oasis to sit back, enjoy the fresh air, and really savor the local craft. While we ate, we had a great community chat, diving into everything from my latest One Piece theories to the essential features of this neighborhood, like the local library and the community fridge. Seeing the neighborhood come together in these shared spaces is one of my favorite parts of documenting this city. 🌳🏙️👒
After fueling up, the journey continued over to Kingsway to visit a local staple: Milk and Sugar Cafe. This is a classic Hong Kong Cafe that always delivers on that nostalgic, comforting vibe. I was on a mission to pick up a two-piece fried chicken meal for Asif (their crispy, golden-brown coating is legendary!), but I couldn't resist a little something for myself: the Durian Cheesecake Milkshake. 🥤🍰 Now, if you’re a regular on the channel, you know I love a bold flavor! This shake was wonderfully pungent, incredibly creamy, and absolutely delicious. It’s a must-try for any adventurous foodie looking for that unique, velvety texture and signature aroma that only the "King of Fruits" can provide.
As we headed toward the downtown core, the energy shifted toward the upcoming global stage. I made my way to Robson Square to check out the brand-new FIFA World Cup art display. ⚽️ The city is already starting to transform in preparation for the world to arrive in 2026, and seeing the vibrant colors and massive installations in the heart of the city really brings the excitement home. We wrapped up the day’s adventure right at the corner of Robson and Bute, reflecting on the incredible diversity of food and culture that makes Vancouver so special. 🎨✨
