Mum and Dad Magpies come for bales – only one centipede today – Australian birds

Straight to a bale and Dad IMMEDIATELY nails a centipede – which I think is a worm until the edit. They'd been around earlier but after I set up the camera they left so I had it all ready. At 2:35 Dad has a scratch – I wonder if he raised his leg so slowly because of his injuries. He might still be a little stiff. It looks like he gives his ear a good seeing to. Mum joins him on the second bale which is a pretty good one. No centipedes but plenty of roach action and a fair bit of digging. The third – I rolled it uphill and was a bit worried it might flip back. I decided not to roll them uphill again. At the end of #3 Dad finds a wandering grasshopper. Ah – in the background you can see the blue covers of Giant granadilla fruit. 13 fruit set and two of them have dropped off so far so it's down to 11. I'm assuming another few will drop off. Dad went on alert around 17:25 but it passed, Mum left and Dad settled under the last bale of the day. It's cute how he pulls worms out of the underside of the bale. Shame about the battery but there you go. After a little rest you often get another few seconds out of it and I'd only noticed it had died after I put the mealworms down.
