Ottawa, Alberta relations grow stronger as West Coast pipeline agreed upon

Relations between Ottawa and Alberta grew stronger Friday after both governments agreed on a pathway to build a new pipeline to Canada’s West Coast. Prime Minister Mark Carney and Premier Danielle Smith aim to get shovels on the ground by fall of 2027 and have oil flow to the Pacific in the next 6 to 7 years. Both leaders also came to an deal on adjusting the industrial carbon pricing, charged to companies for it’s production. Premier Smith says the headline carbon price will be substantially rolled back from $170 dollars per tonne by 2030 to 130 per tonne by 2040. However, the leader’s agreement will still need approvals by private oil companies, the BC government and First Nations communities.
