Researcher encounters 13-foot King Cobra in Thai biosphere reserve | SWNS

A researcher had a close encounter with a 13-foot wild King Cobra while working in a protected forest area in Thailand. Julia Galante, 24, a master’s student from the University at Buffalo, was staying in the Sakaerat Biosphere Reserve when she was alerted to the snake’s presence in October 2025. She said she watched the massive cobra for around 15 minutes before it moved away, describing the experience as frightening but also educational. Galante said the encounter highlighted the ecological importance of cobras in controlling other snake populations and maintaining balance in the environment.
