Description

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) has delivered approximately 25 tons of humanitarian aid supplies for those affected by the earthquake in Afghanistan. Following the 6.0-magnitude earthquake that struck the eastern Kunar province on the night of August 31, Afghanistan requested assistance from Türkiye. In response, humanitarian aid supplies prepared under the coordination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, AFAD, and the Turkish Red Crescent were transported to the region by an A400M aircraft belonging to the Air Force Command, departing from Erkilet Airport in Kayseri. Leading the team assigned to deliver the aid supplies to Jalalabad, Afghanistan, AFAD’s Head of the Department of International Humanitarian Aid, Seyfettin Karabulut, stated that Kunar province was the hardest hit by the earthquake. According to local authorities, Karabulut said, 1,141 people lost their lives and around 3,000 were injured as a result of the quake. He explained that, in response to Afghanistan’s international call for emergency aid, supplies were prepared with the resources of AFAD and the Turkish Red Crescent under the coordination of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and thanks to coordination between the Presidency’s relevant units as well as the Ministries of Interior, Foreign Affairs, and National Defense, the materials were dispatched from Kayseri to Jalalabad in the morning hours. Karabulut stated: “Approximately 25 tons of humanitarian aid supplies consisting of urgently needed shelter materials, as well as hygiene and food packages, have been delivered to the Afghan Red Crescent. The emergency humanitarian aid supplies we have sent to the region will be jointly distributed to those in need by the Afghan Red Crescent and the Turkish Red Crescent. As AFAD, our humanitarian aid efforts will continue — for our people within our country, and for humanity beyond our borders.”
