Description
An Asian comma (Polygonia c-aureum, family Nymphalidae) visiting white blossoms of "utsugi" (Deutzia crenata, family Hydrangeaceae) on the riverside to feed on nectar. This individual was supposed not to be a summer-form but an autumn-form after overwintering, although its wings were unusually flawless and beautiful. Captured in the cloudy (and then sunny) late-morning (around 11:00 AM) of early-June 2024 in Japan. You can hear a male Oriental reed warbler (Acrocephalus orientalis, family Acrocephalidae) singing somewhere in the reed bed along the river to claim his territory and attract females.
