I Almost Sucked the Queen

These dark combs tell a story. 🐝 The darker the comb, the older the nest is likely to be, and this colony had clearly been established for a very long time. 🐝 With more than 50,000 bees in the nest, one of the biggest challenges is finding the queen before she disappears into the specialised bee vacuum along with the rest of the colony. 🐝 If she does get vacuumed up, it's not a major problem. The bee vacuum is designed to safely capture and relocate bees without harming them. 🐝 But finding her first is always the goal. 🐝 Knowing exactly where the queen is gives peace of mind and allows her to be safely secured in a temporary queen cage while the rest of the removal is completed. 🐝 The challenge is that she is just one bee hiding among tens of thousands of others. — © @hinterlandbees
