It forms when fighters take repeated hits to the ear, and the trauma causes blood to pool under the skin. If it’s is not drained in time, it hardens into a clot and the ear becomes permanently swollen and deformed. Some athletes wear the scar like a badge of honor. But some people — even kids — actually try to get it on purpose, which can lead to serious infections and even mess with hearing.
