Description

Many of you have been wondering what happened to the baby after their very eager mother accidentally left them on their own! The lovely news is that the baby was not left behind. After the translocation, the little one climbed up through the trees and found their mother again, a brilliant reminder of just how strong, capable, and resilient orangutans are, even when they are still so young. This rescue happened after the mother and baby were spotted near a rubber plantation in West Kalimantan, too close to people and at growing risk as forests continue to shrink and break apart. A joint team from BKSDA West Kalimantan and our partners, YIARI, safely translocated them, carried out health checks, and released them into protected forest. Moments like this are full of hope. They show why protecting forests matters so much, and why giving orangutans the chance to return to safe habitat can mean everything.
