Description
As it was the first Wednesday of the month yesterday, I decided to hop out and see what local siren tests I could get. As it was rather cloudy, I decided to head for this Whelen 2909 located on a closed stretch of Powell Road in Huntsville for the Limestone County test. This siren was installed by the city of Huntsville (IIRC) back in either 2016 or 2017, along with the Whelen 2909 on Old Highway 20, to help expand coverage in Limestone County. Since it was installed, however, Powell Road was initially closed to the public just south of the siren due to the construction of the Toyota-Mazda plant down in Greenbrier. As you can see though, the road has since been closed closer to where I was set-up, basically blocking-off the ability to drive-up to the siren itself (though I suppose the signs in the way could be removed for accessing the siren or the high voltage power lines here).
This siren went right after 9:15 AM, so good to see Limestone County's still keeping on-time with their tests. After the siren winds-down, you can hear a few other nearby Whelens finishing-up their tests. I believe these were a Whelen 2906 on Mooresville Road to my northwest, a Whelen Vortex at East Limestone High School to my north, and a Whelen 2809 also to my north west, also on Mooresville Road (but to the north of the 2906).
TBQH, I might refilm one of the Whelens in the Limestone County part of Huntsville one day so I can record two sirens within Huntsville's city limits on the same day. I would've done that yesterday, but sadly Madison County decided to delay the test a week due to the cloudy weather.
Limestone County, AL tests on the first Wednesday of the month at 9:15 AM, weather permitting.
