At CIS, we’ve always stood for rigorous, evidence-based research that challenges orthodoxy and speaks truth without fear or favour. This project builds on that legacy - but it also represents something new. It’s an opportunity to reconnect classical liberalism with everyday life and rediscover how freedom can once again become a living, practical force in modern Australia. Through both qualitative and quantitative research, we’ll examine: The pressures and trade-offs that shape people’s lives today How government programs intended to “empower” can box people in; and How a freedom-first approach can open up genuine choices - the ones that reflect what people actually want, not what governments think they should want. From this foundation, the research will deliver policy papers, analysis, and reform proposals that demonstrate how liberal ideas can once again deliver choice, opportunity, and real-life prosperity.
