Marriage was never designed to be a battleground for control. Pastor John reminds us that love is not a license to change or control your spouse. There is no verse in Scripture that authorizes you to treat your husband or wife like your oldest child. God established divine order in the home, but that order was never meant to become a weapon. When you fight over headship, you’re fighting against God’s design. Real love releases control and replaces criticism with praise. The Bible commands husbands to love their wives and wives to reverence their husbands—not manipulate, dominate, or belittle them. Responsibility is the key to greatness—and it is also the key to a healthy marriage. Blaming your spouse for your emotional frustration will not fix your relationship. Accept responsibility for who you have become and for the quality of your marriage. If you do not take happiness into marriage, you will not find happiness in marriage. The Apostle Paul declares in Ephesians 5:33 that husbands are to love and wives are to reverence. Reverence means to stand in awe. When love and respect meet, heaven touches earth in your home. Try it. It works.
