Description
Today was a big day for our mares and foals—their very first turnout on summer pasture!
The mares had one thing on their minds: grass. After spending the spring carefully managing growing babies, producing milk, and waiting for the pastures to be ready, they wasted no time getting down to business. Heads down, mouths full, and not a second to spare.
The foals, however, had a very different agenda.
For the babies, today was the greatest adventure imaginable. Endless room to run, fresh grass beneath their feet, trees to investigate, friends to chase, and enough space to show off every buck, leap, kick, and gallop they have been storing up all spring. There were flying tails, tiny squeals, awkward growth-spurt legs, and plenty of joyful zoomies as they explored their summer home.
Watching mares and foals settle into pasture is one of the highlights of breeding season. The mares can relax and graze while the babies develop strength, coordination, confidence, and social skills through play. There is no gym quite like a pasture for a growing foal.
Safe to say the mares were focused on eating, the foals were focused on being completely feral, and everyone ended the day exactly where they belonged—out on grass, enjoying the start of summer.
