Historic Sri Chakra Pratishtha Kumbhabhisheka Shakti Peetham Jogulamba Kshetra Alampur | Jagadguru

𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐒𝐫𝐢 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐫𝐚 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐭𝐡𝐚 𝐊𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐤𝐚 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐤𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐦 𝐒𝐫𝐢 𝐉𝐨𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐚 𝐓𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞, 𝐀𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐫. Among the eighteen sacred Shakti Peethams of Bharat, each holds immense spiritual significance. The revered Sri Jogulamba Shakti Peetham at Alampur, the only Shakti Peetham in Telangana, is also home to the ancient Sri Balabrahmeshwara Swamy Temple, situated on the banks of the sacred River Tungabhadra. This ancient town, renowned for its rich Sthala Purana and scriptural importance, is also celebrated as one of the four gateways (Dwaras) to the sacred Srisaila Mahakshetram. According to Sri Jogulamba temple's sacred tradition, about twelve centuries ago, when Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya was re-establishing Sanatana Dharma across Bharat, he visited this holy shrine and worshipped Sri Jogulamba Devi. As Devi manifested in an extremely fierce and awe-inspiring form, Sri Adi Shankaracharya installed the sacred Sri Chakra Maha Yantra before Her, thereby invoking Her benevolent and tranquil grace. The temple flourished in the 7th century during the reign of the Badami Chalukyas, including Sri Vikramaditya. After the temple suffered damage during the invasion of the Bahmani Sultanate in the 14th century, Sri Harihara Raya II of the Vijayanagara Empire—established with the divine guidance and grace of Jagadguru Sri Vidyaranya Mahaswamiji—helped prevent further deterioration of Alampur. The sacred Vigraha of Sri Jogulamba was then worshipped at another location for several centuries. Eventually, the temple was reconstructed at its present location, and the Goddess was duly re-consecrated. The Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham, the first and foremost of the four Aamnaya Peethams established by Adi Shankaracharya, has shared an inseparable bond with the Alampur Jogulamba Mahakshetra for centuries. The temple has been guided by the illustrious Jagadgurus of Sringeri Sharada Peetham in matters relating to worship, Agama traditions, and temple administration. Historical records also state that the 35th Jagadguru of Sringeri visited Alampur in 1960 and again in 1965. Likewise, the present Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peethadheeshwara Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Bharati Tirtha Mahaswamiji visited Alampur in 1989. In 2018, the Uttaradhikari of Sringeri Sharada Peetham, Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Sri Vidhushekhara Bharati Mahaswamiji, visited the Alampur Shakti Peetham and offered worship to Sri Jogulamba Devi. During His Holiness' Vijaya Yatra in March 2026, the Jagadguru once again visited the shrine and offered worship to the Goddess. At the request of the temple authorities and devotees for guidance related to Srichakra worship in the temple, His Holiness graciously resolved to perform the Sri Chakra Maha Yantra Sthira Pratishtha. Jagadguru Shankaracharya Sri Vidhushekhara Bharati Mahaswamiji performed the Sri Chakra Maha Yantra Sthira Pratishtha in the Garbha Griha of Sri Jogulamba in the very tradition established by Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya and preserved through the unbroken lineage of the Sringeri Jagadgurus. Prior to the Pratishtha, the Ritwiks of Sringeri Sharada Peetham carried out all the prescribed Vedic rituals, austerities, and preparatory ceremonies required for the installation. On the morning of July 2, Lalitahoma Poornahuti was performed in the divine presence of the Jagadguru Mahaswamiji. At the auspicious Muhurta, the Jagadguru performed the Sri Chakra Maha Yantra Sthira Pratishtha with elaborate Puja at the sanctum of Alampur Jogulamba Shakti Peetha with great Vedic grandeur. The Jagadguru then performed Puja at Sri Balabrahmeshwara Swami. Padapuja was then performed by the temple authorities and philanthropists associated with the Srichakra Pratishtha Kumbhabhisheka. The Jagadguru thereafter blessed the assembled devotees with an elaborate Anugraha Bhashana, explaining the greatness of Sri Jagadamba as the universal Shakti and recalling the service of illustrious rulers such as the Badami Chalukyas, who constructed the temple between the 7th and 8th centuries, and the Vijayanagara Emperors, who renovated and protected it. Sri Sannidhanam also stated that many developmental activities will take place in the ancient Kshetra sanctified by the divine presence of Sri Jogulamba and the Nava Brahma temples. Devotees deemed this blessing and the Srichakra Pratishtha to be the commencement of a golden era at the ancient Kshetram.
