Her care is still extremely specialized and very hands-on. She must continue eating a special diet, and because of her enlarged esophagus, she has to eat while standing upright to help food safely move into her stomach and reduce the risk of regurgitation and serious complications. Despite everything stacked against her since birth, Emmy continues to show us just how resilient and special she truly is. She may have been discarded as “worthless” by the people who failed her, but to us, Emmy is priceless. 💖 Emmy's condition is lifelong, and her care remains expensive between medications, specialized food, monitoring, and future follow-up care for both her heart and esophagus.
