New applications of artificial intelligence are placing increasingly heavy burdens on the world’s ethical frameworks and posing questions that are far too important to seek answers from one worldview alone. Since we have little understanding of AI’s present impact let alone its future consequences, we should adopt an “all-worldviews-on-deck” position as we seek wisdom in this arena. Contrasting materialist and Christian thought, Gretchen brings viewpoint diversity to the field of AI ethics and challenges us to think beyond a minimum-standard culture of ethical AI and toward a robust culture of righteous AI. Bridging the gap between technological innovation and timeless principles of faith, Gretchen illuminates the intersection of AI, ethics, and the Christian gospel with wisdom and humor, making complex concepts accessible to all audiences. Gretchen is an English major at heart (always reading a good book or silently correcting someone’s grammar) but holds master’s degrees in both Mass Communication and Learning Sciences & Human Development, as well as a PhD from the University of Washington with a dissertation titled Righteous AI: The Christian voice in the ethical AI conversation.
