Hubble Captures Destruction of Worlds

The Hubble Space Telescope has captured evidence of a rare and violent event unfolding around the nearby star Fomalhaut - an apparent collision between two large planetary bodies in a distant solar system. Fomalhaut, also known as Ōtamarākau here in Aotearoa, is a young star that lies close to our Sun at only 25 light-years distance, within the southern constellation Piscis Austrinus. This finding sheds light on the same chaotic processes that shaped our own solar system billions of years ago. With support from both Hubble and the James Webb Space Telescope, astronomers are now closely monitoring the aftermath.
