Description
The Peel P50 is a tiny, three-wheeled microcar produced by the Peel Engineering Company on the Isle of Man between 1962 and 1965. It holds the Guinness World Record for the smallest production car ever made.
Designed as a minimalist city vehicle, it was advertised as seating "one adult and a shopping bag." The original model was incredibly light, weighing about 130 pounds, and measured just 54 inches long. It was powered by a 49 cc single-cylinder engine, providing a top speed of around 38 mph.
A key and quirky feature was the absence of a reverse gear. Instead, a handle was fitted at the rear, allowing the driver to physically lift and maneuver the car to turn it around or park. Only about 50 of the original P50s were built, making them highly collectible today. New petrol and electric versions have been produced since 2010.
