Description

@chrislukhaupand friends are back on the water in Brazil, this time in the waters off Tocantins. The water here is crystal clear, with beautiful aquatic plants and plenty of fish 🇧🇷 This active schooling tetra maybe belongs to the Astyanax bimaculatus species complex, a group of similar-looking South American characins that are often difficult to identify to exact species level. The fish is recognizable by its bright silver body, the dark shoulder spot behind the gill cover, and the black marking on the caudal peduncle extending toward the tail fin. In the Rio Tocantins, these tetras inhabit clear, shallow river areas with aquatic plants, roots, and submerged structures. They are fast, alert swimmers and usually move in groups, feeding opportunistically on small invertebrates, plant material, organic particles, and other natural food sources. @aquariumcoop @caminhosdesconhecidos #Astyanax #RioTocantins #BrazilianFish #Aquarium #Aquascaping
