LIVE: Office of Civil Defense holds press briefing on Mindanao Earthquake | June 15, 2026

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) issued an official update regarding the impact of the recent Magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Mindanao. According to NDRRMC Assistant Secretary Raffy Alejandro, the death toll has risen to 65, while 36 individuals remain missing, primarily due to earthquake-induced landslides. Based on the latest data, infrastructure damage has reached over ₱1.13 billion. Assessments were also provided by DOST-PHIVOLCS (on recent aftershocks), DENR-MGB (on potential landslides and rain-induced flash floods), the AFP, and the DSWD regarding ongoing search and rescue, recovery, and relief operations for the disaster victims. Furthermore, the DENR-MGB warned of artificial river damming and called for intensified hazard assessments, particularly in Jose Abad Santos in Davao Occidental, General Santos City (GenSan), and the municipalities of Glan and Malapatan in Sarangani.
