Description

Penelope wrote this song for those of you who have been asking for more of her music. A simple song, for a simpler time: "Hearth & Home" is a duet performed by Penelope and David ("Granny and Gramps" from some of our other videos, the founders of Homewood Stoves) - music and lyrics by Penelope. We filmed this mostly-music video up in the farm hills, at the Homewood Cabin. Simple and rustic, built from reclaimed materials, David used to erect this cabin each year at various trade shows around New Zealand, to provide an authentic setting in which to show off his stoves over the beginning years of our company. Today, the Homewood Cabin exists permanently as an off-grid, no-power, no-technology-allowed (Penelope allowing the filming of this video as an exception!) escape from modern life, now expanded with a sleeping area, and given a mud brick floor, for family and friends to retreat to and recharge. Song recorded and mixed by Shane Stewart. Lyrics to 'Hearth & Home': Winter memories, winter song Summer's come, and summer's gone A fireside Our chairs close together The world's moved on That's what they say But I, I remember an older way A simple life for you and me Seasons turning, wood fire burning We watched the flames dance higher We've always loved the simple things A match, a flame, a fire Now what of spring? And what of summer? When autumn leaves are turning, It's for winter, Hearth and home, That my heart is yearning Stoke the fire, bake the bread, make tea The kettle singing, for you and me A simple supper by the fire, With the one I love Thinking back on bygone times Forgotten hymns, And old love-song rhymes Body and soul, warmly knit together Seasons turning, wood stove burning We watched the flames dance higher We've always loved the simple things A match, a flame, a fire Now what of spring? And what of summer? When autumn leaves are turning, It's for winter, Hearth and home, That our hearts are yearning It's for winter, our hearth and home That our hearts keep yearning This song is available for download here: https://homewoodstoves.bandcamp.com/track/hearth-home
