Visiting a Beirut shelter for children and families displaced by war, UNICEF spokesperson James Elder finds Lebanese families standing together and caring for one another. UNICEF trains and pays young people to prepare meals and sew sleeping bags for families living in displacement sites, providing nutritious food and warmth while restoring dignity. Everyone pitches in, doing what they can to get through the hardships. "They show up, they help each other," Elder says. "And in doing so, survival stops being solitary and it becomes solidarity."
