Adventures with Purpose (AWP) returns to the Sacramento River, with a singular focus: bringing Julie Margaret Vessigault home. As one of the most recent disappearances in the region, the team is dedicated to identifying vehicles that could be tied to her disappearance, narrowing down the possibilities, and edging closer to answers for her family. Julie’s Story Julie Margaret Vessigault disappeared on January 23, 2024. She was last seen leaving her mother’s house in Elk Grove, California, driving her tan 2005 Toyota Camry (GA plate SBJ4515). Her departure raised immediate red flags. Julie had dumped her purse out at her mother’s house, leaving behind cash, uncashed checks, and her phone—something she was known to keep close at all times. While Julie had been known to take drives to clear her mind, she always returned within hours. This time, she didn’t. Surveillance footage captured her vehicle heading west on Elk Grove Boulevard, but after that, her trail vanished. Her family has been left to wonder: Did she drive south along I-5? Could she have taken River Road, intending to enjoy a peaceful drive along the water? Or did something else entirely happen? Julie’s disappearance has left her family and friends devastated. Known for her love of aviation and her meticulous, kind-hearted nature, Julie’s absence has left an unbearable void in the lives of those who knew her. Today’s Efforts The team began the day focusing on the stretch of River Road that Julie may have driven, scanning for vehicles that matched the size and profile of her Toyota Camry. Using advanced sonar technology, they identified multiple submerged vehicles, carefully logging and analyzing each one. Several vehicles were inspected during today’s search, including: - A four-door sedan found upside down, buried in silt. Its shape and size closely resembled Julie’s car, prompting further investigation. - A station wagon, heavily deteriorated and unlikely to be connected to her case, but logged for environmental cleanup. - A white Chevrolet Camaro, newer and in good condition, which was determined not to be the Toyota Camry. The day’s efforts were methodical, with each vehicle carefully GPS-marked for follow-up dives. If a vehicle wasn’t immediately identified as Julie’s, it was added to a growing list of potential leads for future investigation. The Sacramento River continues to challenge the team with its murky depths, shifting currents, and layers of silt that conceal decades of history. Over 31 vehicles have been located in the water during this search alone, with eight already pulled to the surface for analysis.
