Assistant Chief James Skelton briefs the media about an officer-involved shooting in the 2200 block of Briarview Drive. Preliminary information: At approximately 6:44 pm on Thursday, June 11th, HPD received a call of a suspcious person with a weapon. The caller reported a man had pointed a gun at him and his child in the 14300 block of Westheimer. Houston Police officers arrived at 6:48 pm and spotted the suspect. They gave the man verbal commands to drop the weapon. The man did not comply, instead running away. Officers gave chase. During the pursuit, the suspect pointed the gun at officers multiple times. Officers continued to give verbal commands to the suspect to drop the weapon, but he did not comply. In the 2400 block of Briarview, one officer discharged his duty weapon, striking the suspect.
