They were scattered to their own pursuits, unaware of the deeper alignment with Christ required. Faith must endure not just blessings but desolation, where God's presence is trusted despite circumstances. This transition moves faith from reliance on feelings to a steadfast trust in God Himself. Spiritual maturity comes when faith praises God regardless of inner emptiness. "Be of good cheer," Jesus says, "I have overcome the world."
