Step back into Texas history this Spring Break on Bolivar Peninsula as the historic bunkers at Fort Travis open for special self-guided tours on Saturday, March 14, 2026 from 10am–2pm. Visitors will have the rare opportunity to walk inside the massive coastal defense bunkers that once protected Galveston Harbor, explore the old gun batteries, and see the rooms where soldiers once worked and lived while guarding the Texas coast. Built beginning in 1898 and used through both World Wars, Fort Travis remains one of the most complete coastal artillery sites in Texas and a must-see historic destination in Port Bolivar.
