Description
On March 16, 2026, UNICEF Deputy Executive Director Ted Chaiban reports from a school in Beirut, now housing 3,000 people displaced by escalating conflict in Lebanon.
UNICEF is working with partners to provide services for displaced children and their families: helping with recreational activities, increasing access to safe water, providing support with a mobile health and nutrition clinic.
Across the country, 800 such shelters exist. Since late February 2026, more than 800,000 people, 300,000 of them children, have been displaced by ongoing violence in Lebanon.
"The war has to stop," Chaiban says. "Children in Lebanon deserve a chance to grow up in peace, to feel that sense of safety, to be in school and to have a normal life, like children all over the world. We call for an end to this war. We call for a ceasefire."
