🎬 Rotherham town centre:Killing it slowly their way (council) I passed my driving test back in 1983 and worked at British Steel Rotherham right here through the 80s. I still remember the total confusion when the council made High Street one-way, before banning cars completely in 1993. Over 40 years later, the confusion is at an all-time high. Today, driving in is such a nightmare that I didn't even bother. I parked up at The Ickles by the Steel Henge sculptures and walked in—a proper nod to our town's industrial roots. Try standing outside the Minster today and figuring out Corporation Street. You think you can get through from Westgate to Corporation Street? Good luck. The council expects you to loop around Main Street, hook a left, and navigate a one-way maze that half the town avoids just to escape a bus lane fine. It’s an obstacle course. Add in a total road closure right outside the Empire Theatre, Moorgate Street shut down, Ship Hill blocked, and Westgate cut off, and you have a ghost town in the making. They call it "regeneration," but are these endless roadworks just killing local businesses slowly? 👇 💬 Let me know in the comments: Did you work at British Steel back in the day? What do you think of the town centre now? #Rotherham #RotherhamTownCentre #RotherhamCouncil #SouthYorkshire #UKRoads #TownCentre #LocalGovernment #Roadworks #DrivingInTheUK #RotherhamMinster #WestgateRotherham #UKTowns #1980s #TheIckles #SteelHenge #BritishSteel #RotherhamSteel Welcome to the channel. I have been vlogging across Sheffield city centre, South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire, and North East Derbyshire since the July 2020 lockdown. From time to time, I also venture further afield, including trips to London. This channel serves as a living archive celebrating our lovely traditional villages, changing landscapes, and rich local history. But it is also a platform for activism. I am here to tell it exactly like it is—exposing the creeping nanny state, terrible council road planning, tracking-destroying roadworks, and the destruction of our heritage. Love me or hate me, I won't stop highlighting the truth.
