UNICEF  Works to Protect Children Under Fire in Ukraine

Toby Fricker, UNICEF Ukraine Chief of Advocacy and Communication, reports from Kyiv on Jan. 9, 2026, where a massive overnight attack killed at least four people and left more than 30 percent of the city's population without heat as temperatures plunged below freezing. Water and electricity have also been affected. As part of its ongoing emergency response, UNICEF delivered generators to help with repairs and provide back-up.  "Across Ukraine, attacks have impacted critical infrastructure," Fricker says.
