Imagine living in a place with no roads, no electricity. This place doesn’t even exist on Google Maps.
I spent days inside India's only floating village, and what I found there was unimaginable.
-Families who have lived here for 5 generations are being called illegal settlers by the state.
-In 2011, government forces burned their homes, compensation given was ₹20,000 per house.
-Plans are going on to displace the entire village and build golf courses, yoga retreats, and hotels in its place.
-There's a law that makes it illegal to live on the lake, drink its water, or even pluck its grass, while the people who depend on it have no alternative
And yet life here is extraordinary. Women run everything. The world's only floating national park is here.
I sat with families living in school classrooms after losing everything in Manipur's 3-year ethnic conflict. Women weaving on looms in the same rooms where their children sleep.
This video isn't just about a floating village. It's about people who built an entire civilization on water, and are being pushed off it, one policy at a time.
Could you imagine a life here? Tell me in the comments.
