Data or models? The two souls of artificial intelligence (Sergio Barbarossa)

AI moves between two extremes: the power of data and the depth of models. Just as the ancient Babylonians predicted the movements of the stars without understanding the laws governing them, AI also risks being limited to prediction without explanation. The challenge is to integrate the precision of data with the abstraction of models to build an AI that not only observes the world but also truly understands it.
