How will AI reshape organizations and jobs? In this month’s Dean’s Call, I spoke with IESE Business School professor Eduard Talamàs, whose research offers a framework to understand how AI will transform knowledge work. Eduard explains how AI challenges one of the core reasons organizations are structured as they are: to manage the bottleneck in knowledge work—experts’ time and expertise that is hard to transfer. By taking on some of this work, AI reshapes who gains and who loses. Yet much depends on how autonomous AI becomes. ➡️ If AI achieves high autonomy, it could amplify the impact of the most knowledgeable but also displace some of the least experienced. ➡️ If AI remains less autonomous, the less experienced will benefit more.
