Playing or fighting? Here's how to tell the difference. No sound, no yelling, no "get away from me" energy. Just two cats staring each other down, going at it, and then reaching back out for more. That's play. And it makes complete sense once you understand what play actually is for a cat: practice for prey. The hunt never really goes away, it just gets redirected. So the next time you watch your cats wrestle and your stomach drops a little, ask yourself: do you hear anything? Is anyone walking away and not coming back? Is fur flying? If the answer is no, take a breath. They're good. Understanding this one distinction can completely change how you see your cats together.
