Description

Great dusky swifts, Iguazu falls, Brazil - 2nd-4th September 2024 These swifts are famous for nesting and roosting behind the curtains of falling water at Iguazu Falls. They fly right through the water to find their roosting sites, where they are safe from predators. I could not really just show the swifts without also showing the incredible habitat in which they live, so the first part of the video shows the Devil's Throat waterfall on the Brazilian side of Iguazu. The roosting swifts are shown from 1.47 to 3.39. I went down to film them just before sunset, having seen none there on a visit earlier in the day. I then returned at dawn, when it was possible to see the swifts flying through the water below me at another part of the walkway below the falls, which can be seen from 3.40.
