India made blockbuster films in 2025, but the world played a very different game. 2025 gave India some big box office winners like Dhurandhar, Kantara, and Chhawa, with collections crossing ₹800 to ₹1100 crore. These are strong numbers by Indian standards. But when you compare them with global cinema, the gap becomes impossible to ignore. Globally, movies like How to Train Your Dragon, Lilo and Stitch, and Ne Zha 2 dominated the box office. Ne Zha 2 alone earned over ₹18,000 crore, more than the combined earnings of Bollywood and all major Indian regional industries. What stands out is that the world’s biggest hits are animated films, powered by technology, strong storytelling, and global appeal. In India, even the highest-earning animated film, Mahavatar Narsimha, crossed only around ₹300 crore.
