Description
"Be Careful What You Repeatedly Ask of God.
You can’t always judge a prayer by its answer. Yes, in His kindness God sometimes withholds what we foolishly or selfishly request (James 4:3). But Scripture also shows moments when God grants persistent yet unwise prayers.
Think about Israel crying out for a king: “We want to be like every other nation!” (see 1 Samuel 8). Eventually, God said in essence, “Fine, here you go.” He gave them exactly what they asked for—but it wasn’t what was best for them.
We often reflect on how God gives people over to their stubborn desires (Romans 1:24-28), but how often do we, as believers, chase our own interests in prayer without following Christ’s example: “… nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done” (Luke 22:42)?
➡️ Jesus showed us what that surrender looks like. “Now, my soul is troubled” (Luke 22:27). These words may read softly, but they carried the weight of anguish. His heart raced, His body trembled, and in the depth of His distress, He SWEAT BLOOD (Luke 22:44). In that moment, He faced two choices: SAVE HIMSELF or GLORIFY GOD.
➡️ We know what He chose. The real question is—what will we choose when our souls are troubled? It’s easy to pray, “God, save me,” so we can retreat to COMFORT and avoid the pain. Make no mistake, God will give you what you ask for.
➡️ But what if instead we prayed, “Father, glorify your name” (John 12:28)? That simple surrender doesn’t always remove the struggle, but it gives it PURPOSE. A purpose greater than our comfort. A PURPOSE THAT BUILDS OTHERS UP AND MAGNIFIES GOD’S LOVE.
So pray boldly. Pray specifically. But always end with a surrendered heart that trusts the Father knows best how to lead His children.
Make no mistake, God will give you what you ask for. 🙏❤️
