This 1961 Checker Superba is a rare six-passenger station wagon offered at no reserve from the Gilmore Car Museum collection. Unlike the more common taxi models, the Superba was built for private consumer use. It features a black body with a red roof and two-tone gray vinyl upholstery.Power is provided by a 226ci Continental overhead-valve inline-six engine, which was factory rated at 122 horsepower. This is paired with a column-shifted three-speed manual transmission featuring overdrive and a Power-Lok rear axle. Notable equipment includes 15-inch steel wheels with chrome hubcaps, a roll-down rear window, a fold-flat rear bench seat, and a heater. The vehicle was originally sold to a family in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and reportedly covered over 300,000 miles before being donated to the museum. While the five-digit odometer shows 7,200 miles, it is believed to have rolled over three times.
