‼️ This Giant Ocean Plant Starts Life Smaller Than A Speck Of Dust! 🌊 Bull kelp begins as a microscopic spore that settles onto a rock and develops into a tiny male or female stage. The male releases sperm, the female produces eggs, and once fertilization happens, a new bull kelp begins growing. It anchors itself to the seafloor with a holdfast, then grows rapidly toward the surface. In ideal conditions, bull kelp can grow up to 10 inches in a single day. Its gas-filled bulb helps lift the kelp toward sunlight, while its blades photosynthesize and fuel continued growth. By late summer, mature bull kelp releases millions of spores into the ocean, starting the entire life cycle again.
