China’s recent public acknowledgment that it provided technical assistance to Pakistan during “Operation Sindoor” has triggered strong reactions in India, with New Delhi issuing a sharp diplomatic response and many observers describing Beijing’s actions as a betrayal of trust. The controversy erupted after Chinese state media aired interviews with engineers linked to the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), who admitted they had worked alongside Pakistani forces during the 2025 India-Pakistan military confrontation. According to reports carried by Chinese broadcaster CCTV and later highlighted by international media, Chinese engineers provided on-site technical support to Pakistan during the four-day conflict that followed India’s “Operation Sindoor.” The Chinese admission was significant because it marked the first time Beijing openly acknowledged direct operational assistance to Pakistan during the conflict. One engineer reportedly stated that Chinese teams worked under “extreme conditions” to ensure Chinese-made military systems used by Pakistan operated effectively during the confrontation. Pakistan’s military heavily relies on Chinese-origin weapons, aircraft, radar systems, and drones. India responded strongly to the development. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the reports merely confirmed what India already suspected. The issue has intensified anti-China sentiment in parts of India because many analysts argue that India had attempted to stabilize ties with Beijing after years of border tensions, trade cooperation, and diplomatic engagement. China’s open backing of Pakistan during a direct military confrontation has therefore been viewed by many in India as proof that Beijing continues to prioritize its strategic alliance with Islamabad over improving trust with New Delhi. The controversy also revived concerns within India’s security establishment regarding the growing China-Pakistan military partnership. Earlier, Indian Army officials had claimed that Pakistan was receiving “live inputs” from China during the conflict and that Chinese-origin systems were extensively used against Indian forces.
