Description
A seine net is a massive, vertical fishing net designed to encircle and trap entire schools of fish. Suspended by floats at the top and weighted at the bottom, it hangs like a lethal curtain in the open water. While highly effective for industrial fishing, these nets are indiscriminate killers trap dolphins, sea turtles, endangered species, and seals, with absolutely no chance of escape.
Given the catastrophic damage they cause, it is devastating that these nets remain legal. Centuries ago, fishing left a minor footprint on our marine ecosystems. Today, advanced tracking technology is used to exploit the ocean beyong its limits. We have completely lost sight of what is sustainable, pushing our oceans toward an ecological disaster - to say nothing of the ethical and moral failure of industrial overfishing.
