Late last year, a clutch of Bellinger River snapping turtle eggs was laid as part of ongoing conservation work with the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, Symbio Conservation Foundation and Taronga Zoo Sydney. In an effort to support this critically endangered species. 🐢 While in the incubation phase, each egg is closely monitored under controlled conditions to optimise success. Temperature, humidity and environmental stability all play a critical role in embryo viability and eventual hatching outcomes. This species has experienced severe population decline in the wild, making every successful breeding event a significant contribution to its long-term recovery. These efforts form part of broader collaborative conservation programs aimed at securing the future of the Bellinger River snapping turtle through science-based management and intervention.
