Description
Yes, positive reinforcement training works for the "serious" dogs, too. Of course it does.
Tino is an intact Rottweiler x presa canario. He's a year old and has started showing vocal behaviours towards other dogs. We did some beautiful work yesterday after his human travelled from Aberdeen to see us.
What you'll notice
- harness
- high rate of reinforcement
- environmental management using distance and lead handling
- almost no verbal "commands" or "obedience" (sit, watch me, etc), they are unnecessary and counterproductive to our aims at this point.
No prong collars, slip leads, shock collars or choke chains - despite Tino being a "serious" dog (whatever the hell that is) they are completely unnecessary if you know what you're doing.
We had a beautiful, social, playful interaction with a young, male dog of similar size off camera (there was too much going on).
Excellent work from this team.
It can be done.
