When Dave, a grieving everyman, hires Gus, a maybe-too-legit spiritual medium, to contact his recently deceased girlfriend, their session starts off hopeful but soon starts to smell off. Twist after relentless twist propel them on a psychological thrill ride driven by an inter-dimensional Bonnie and Clyde, without ever leaving Gus' office. A simple recipe yielding complex results. Director's Statement: When Ryan came to me with the script for Rare Medium, I was taking a break from shorts to write my feature-- but the twists got me. And the opportunity to work with these two hilarious actors on deeper, more subverted performances, was too juicy to pass up. I'm always on a mission to explore the tension between known physics and the supernatural beyond, with laughs. And white knuckles. My favorite combo. Rare Medium is a taut little heist movie disguised as a freaky creeper about exteriors belying interiors, and the perpetual danger of trust. But more simply, it's a wild ride, best enjoyed with a baguette.
