Description
Virat Kohli was born on 5 November 1988 in Delhi to a middle-class Punjabi Hindu family. His father, Prem Nath Kohli, was a lawyer, and his mother, Saroj Kohli, was a homemaker. From the age of three, Virat showed an interest in cricket. His father noticed his passion and, despite financial strain, enrolled him in a cricket academy when he was 10.
In 2006, when Virat was 18, his father passed away from a stroke. The next day, he played a Ranji Trophy match and scored 90 runs. It was a difficult time, but that moment pushed him to take cricket more seriously. Two years later, he led India to a win in the Under-19 World Cup in Malaysia, and that helped him break into the senior national team.
Virat moved through junior cricket steadily, playing for U-14, U-15, and U-17 teams. Over time, he became one of India’s most reliable batters and eventually took over as captain in 2014 after MS Dhoni stepped down.
In 2013, he met actor Anushka Sharma during an ad shoot. They started dating and got married in 2017. But he always stood by her. He often gave her credit for his victories, acknowledging the strength she brought during his toughest times.
In 2021, they welcomed their daughter, & he took paternity leave despite the trolling, prioritising family above all. ‘I wanted to be there,’ he said. They became parents again in 2024 with the birth of their son, the same year he helped India lift the T20 World Cup.
By 2025, he retired from Test and T-20 formats, closing an era with grace and courage. More than a cricket icon, Virat Kohli proved that true strength lies in love, loyalty, and standing up for what matters.
