Description
More miniatures, tiny bowls this time, these were trickier than the vases made last week mainly due to the difficulty of hollowing on the deep feet these have, tiny tools, tiny movements, yet the chance for things to go awry is extremely high when trimming vessels this thin.
I feel like pots this size are often just a novelty, that’s not the idea here, rather my intention is to create pots to use in future collections, be it displays laid out horizontally, or those stacked up, which you often see in my totems. The pots in those stacks needs to get smaller as they reach taller and I’ve wanted to include even tinier pieces in those for a while, thus as the tower of pots gets taller the pots themselves become smaller too.
There’s also a tremendous amount of skill that goes into making miniature pieces, be in controlling the amount of pressure and force used, or simply keeping the pots properly round as thin walls distort more easily. It’s for that reason that I’m trimming these when they’re on the firmer side, this way they should hold their shapes better.
Now onto the next challenge… glazing them.
