Description

Taking the northern route across Ikuchishima, instead of the southern route I had taken by mistake last time. Honestly? I think I prefer the less travelled southern path, unless you were crossing the bridge to Takeneshima to explore more of the islands. Also as a general rule I think being on the left to follow the coast means you get a more direct view instead of looking across traffic. Still, Setodako and the surrounding town area was interesting to see, I do wish I had more time to explore, especially to see Sunset Beach at the right time of day! Continuing south, the climb to the iconic Tatara Bridge includes passing through Lemon Ravine, and seeing the themed monster - and a wild capsule machine! Quite a long bridge crossing, where part-way lies the border between Hiroshima and Ehime prefectures. Technically, from this point, we are in Shikoku! On the other side lies a Cyclist Sanctuary, where you can enjoy a break with a view of the bridge. As it happens, this was also where I stumbled across YouTube superstars Chris Broad ( @AbroadinJapan ) and Connor Colquhoun (@CDawgVA ) as they were on their second day of making their own more leisurely journey across the islands. Check out their adventures here: https://youtu.be/eX88G9VK5NY?t=36318 To clarify, I did not go out of my way to stream-snipe, but I did see that they were going to be doing the cycleway, and chose to do it myself on this day specifically because of that - I expected maybe if I saw them at all it would be passing by along the road, or as they were stopped, and it would have been a cool "oh hey, there they are" moment and nothing more. But as chance would have it, they were leaving the stop as I was arriving, and at that point it would almost have been more rude just to ride past without saying anything! Thanks to the lads for being so patient and encouraging.
